Our relationships with our families, romantic partners, work colleagues, friends, neighbours, etc. are often sources of support but also sources of discomfort. Counselling is not about apportioning blame - we are all imperfect - it is about understanding how we came to be where we are so that we can take ownership for making the changes we need to make to feel better. Below is a list of just some of the issues and symptoms that counselling / coaching can help with.
family friction (adult/child or adult/adult)
excessive procrastination and decision making
skills in organisation
parenting style challenges
divorce (the process/the aftermath)
relationship loss (partner/family member/friend...)
controlling relationships and co-dependence
social connection and lonliness
low confidence, self worth and identity issues
low mood and depression
co-parenting for step or separated parents
boarding school syndrome
school attendance
academic or work pressure
impact of childhood abuse and neglect in adulthood
bullying at school or work
work overload/overwhelm
unexplained high anxiety
attachment and abandonment issues
fear of rejection
Counselling or coaching can be as little as one session, it can be a short series of sessions or it can be open ended.
Sometimes people have a single issue with which they are stuck and one or a few sessions will be sufficient for becoming unstuck.
Sometimes issues are more complex and it will take longer to understand them and identify ways to move forward.
Sessions are usually weekly to begin with but there is some flexibility according to need.
“Thank you so much, I cannot remember when I last felt so anxiety free.” — Client, October 2023, session 5.
I will send you a 'New Client Form' then we can arrange an initial consultation session which is charged as a regular session. There is no obligation to book further sessions but if you decide to go ahead, this session will count as 1 of 5 and will attract the 10% discount applied to block booking subject to Terms and Conditions.
In our first session we will explore your reasons for seeking support and how your package of sessions might look. This is always open to review.
A counselling/coaching session for an individual is 60 minutes and sessions are usually weekly (at least to begin with). There is some flexibility aound frequency as, sometimes, more space is needed for reflection and application of tools or strategies.
Coaching offers support with finding practical strategies for reducing demands on emotional resources. This can be key in helping clients to feel better but it can also give more space to grapple with deeper and more challenging issues.
Through counselling and coaching, clients develop greater connection with themselves, awareness of their own needs, and they discover their personal and relational resources for addressing and meeting those needs.
Counselling and coaching can support you to make changes for yourself and in your relationships that take you from incongruence and discomfort to authenticity and peace.
Being open to challenging your existing narratives can speed up the process of change.
“I have learnt so much from talking with you, which is bizarre as I seem to do most of the talking.” — Client, October 2023.
