How long is a counselling relationship?

Counselling can be as little as one session, it can be a short series of sessions or it can be open ended.

Sometimes people have a single issue with which they are stuck and one or a few sessions will be sufficient for becoming unstuck.

Sometimes issues are more complex and it will take longer to understand them and identify ways to move forward.

“Thank you so much, I cannot remember when I last felt so anxiety free.” Client, October 2023, session 5.

What happens after I make contact?

We can arrange a time for a 15 minute phone call to help use decide whether we will be a good fit to work together. If we decide to go ahead, I will send you my working agreement for you to read and a new client information form to complete. In an initial session I will ask about your reasons for engaging with counselling/coaching and how counselling might help.

We will discuss how a tailor made package might look for you in terms of number and frequency of sessions.

I will explain the counselling contract including your rights in terms of confidentiality and GDPR.

How does counselling look?

A counselling/coaching session is 50 minutes.

I draw on my training and understanding of humanist and relational counselling models as well as my professional background and life experience to support clients.

Coaching offers support with finding practical strategies for reducing demands on emotional resources. This can be key in helping clients to feel better but it can also give more space to grapple with more challenging issues.

Through counselling the client develops greater connection with themselves, awareness of their own needs, and discovers their inner resources for meeting those needs.

Counselling and coaching can support you to make changes that take you from incongruence and discomfort to authenticity and peace.

“I have learnt so much from talking with you, which is bizarre as I seem to do most of the talking.” Client, October 2023.
